Gradient Pavilion

The practice won this invited competition scheme in North London in 2013. The project is in two parts; extending and remodelling an existing 5000sqft arts and crafts house and the addition of a new 5000sqft pavilion home in the rear garden.

The discrete pavilion hovers above the rear garden and contains the living spaces. The bedrooms and the other ancillary spaces are below the garden and are daylit via a central courtyard. The elegant pavilion is designed with louvered cladding which allows the maximum amount of natural light into the ground floor and subterranean levels whilst minimising light pollution and shielding views in and out to the neighbouring properties.

The existing front house has been extended at the rear and below ground to create an 11000sqft property. We developed a new architectural language for the contemporary elements by drawing upon the materials and forms of the original house.
