Materials are the storytellers of the built environment. They define our surroundings and shape the experience of those who inhabit them.
Sourcing and selecting materials for an architectural project is not just a technical task, but an experimental journey. In this process we explore how factors like sustainability, texture, colour, practicality and interactions with landscape and light influence and enhance both the human experience and the project’s overall value.
Designing sustainably amongst other considerations means thoughtfully selecting materials, considering their source and how they’re processed. Using local, natural materials reflects a respect for the environment and elevates the space we create. Embracing imperfections and minimizing waste also plays a key role in this approach.
Elements like light, texture and colour deeply influence how we experience and interact with the built environment, shaping our emotions and even affecting our well-being.
In the design process, sourcing materials is where the practical and the poetic, the technical and the beautiful merge together to create our surroundings.
