Riverside Penthouse

2012

Our clients presented us with an inspiring brief: to capture the essence of their beloved Cap Ferrat Hotel, infusing their London residence with the glamour of the 1920s and a touch of nautical elegance.

The existing space, a stark developer's unit within a prestigious Norman Foster building along the Thames, presented both a challenge and an opportunity. We saw the potential to harmonize the building's undulating façades with the interior, conceptualizing the living spaces as a fluid, interior landscape. Our clients, avid art collectors, required a design that would complement their impressive collection without overshadowing it. Drawing inspiration from the sleek lines of motorboats and the interwar charm of the Côte d'Azur, we crafted an environment that exudes period glamour while maintaining a restrained elegance that allows the artwork to take centre stage. We employed bespoke furniture and meticulously crafted joinery throughout the space. These elements feature intricate detailing that enhances the overall design without competing with the art pieces.

Foster Lomas took on the role of lead consultants, providing comprehensive architectural and interior design services, including lighting design. We collaborated closely with art curators Paul McCabe, structural engineers Webb Yates, and MEP services engineers Freeman Beesley. The principal contractor, EE Smith, brought our vision to life with expert craftsmanship.

The result is a harmonious blend of architectural expression and interior design - a space that not only reflects our clients' vision but also respects and enhances the building's iconic architecture. This project exemplifies our studio's commitment to creating bespoke, contextually sensitive interiors that seamlessly integrate with their architectural surroundings.
